Spring Fishing is Here!

It’s that time of year again!

After a sluggish start to Spring I am finally seeing consistent Carp activity. We have already caught over a dozen since May 1st. I did see some spawning activity yesterday in multiple places and that will slow things down for a week or two.

Due to the Carp spawn starting, I will be out this week scouting for Spring Wiper fishing. May is a great month to target them in the shallows. Stay tuned for results!

We are experiencing some minor flooding in Central Iowa which is creating new (temporary) Carp flats. These can be gold mines for unpressured fish that are chowing down on terrestrials. The downside to all this rain is that two of my main spots that are fed by creeks and rivers are going to be stained for a while. There is decent clarity in the pits and ponds though.

The Spring Carp fishing can be really good after the spawn and fish can be caught on a variety of flies. Dates are still available and if you’re interested in booking a day, let’s get you on the calendar.

I hope you’re having a great Spring on the water!

Ash
